Mannequin – The Real Observer

Skin, this world keeps talking about skin and more,
I stay silent and in a corner and sometimes on display,
My eyes don’t blink, my hands don’t move,
But I am watching you, all the time in a non-creepy way…

How you walk, how you talk, how you treat people,
The only difference that I am not alive to judge you,
For all your actions, your presence doesn’t scare me,
I am fearless but I am watching you, all the time in a non-creepy way…

If you think I don’t have emotions, you might be wrong,
Think again, think hard and look at me, at that lack of expression,
I absorb all of what you could possibly be when no one watches,
I am broken yet strong, I am watching you, all the time in a non-creepy way…

Everyday I am forced to stay in the dark, it makes me strong,
Everyday I am given all day of light to feed my skin,
Everyday I overhear conversations you wouldn’t dare to,
Everyday, I am watching you, all the time in a non-creepy way…

You praise the dead, I being a non-living praise the silent doers,
Our journeys are different yet same,
Someday make time, take a look at me, my fears too,
Turn my eyes close so that I take a break from watching you, all the time,
in a non-creepy way…

You have given a new perspective about the mannequins which is quite wonderful. We may all say that judging others is not done but knowingly or unknowingly, we keep doing it and it only stops with our death. All the best for the Write Tribe Pro-blogger challenge.

Oh dear. However will I walk past those store mannequins now without giving a second thought? Well written. Yes, they might be observing in a different way indeed!

Loved this. It’s very creative that you wrote a poem from a mannequin’s perspective. For all we know, they might be thinking like that. This is a great start to the challenge!

” I am watching you, all the time in a non-creepy way…” very different. I don’t read anything buy fiction and non poetry, this is engaging!

  9. Rajlakshmi October 4, 2017 @ 3:06 am

Mannequins always have this ‘I know what you did’ kind of expression. Loved this creative piece … It would be scary if mannequins start imitating humans, as we ourselves are so messed up.
The repetition of the last line gives the poem a nice flow.

It definitely is creepy. To think about a mannequin watching us. Bit it’s good to know that there are actual people watching us without us knowing and even judging us for who we are.

Beautiful lines. Loved how to wrote about something important so effortlessly.
