Cochlear™ Implant – A boon for the modern world hearing impairment

To be able to see, listen, feel and live your life to the fullest is a blessing, isn’t it? To understand, realize and actually interpret your surroundings, people, their speech, the words, emotions, feelings they express is what we should always be thankful about.

Today, in this post I want to speak about one such modern world gadget which can help people with partial or full hearing loss, get back their ability to listen, feel and be a part of the environment as every normal person can. They say magic is all about illusion but I say if the trick is learnt and observed carefully, you can make your own magic.

Cochlear Implants are one such solution to hearing loss. Speaking about degrees of hearing loss, there are 4 hearing loss stages: Mild, moderate, severe and profound. Measuring your hearing ability can help you find the type and degree of hearing loss and as the next steps make your doctor aware about the type of treatment that should be given to you.

CochlearTM India, has helped over 4, 50,000 people of all ages live full and active lives by reconnecting them with family, friends and community.

Here’s one recipient sharing his story:

Recently, I was invited to one of Cochlear Celebration gatherings where I met the recipients, learned about the entire process of implants, how technology has indeed taken over & made it possible to solve difficult situations with effective solutions. Witnessing the entire journey of the organization, their objective to ensure children should go through under a check at a very small age & their vision to provide a lifetime blessing of hearing, it made my eyes swell to the fact that together as a community we can always make a difference.

In this generation of consciousness & how we are so self-critical, I want to share one of my personal favorite devices I came across at the meet up and that was KANSO®. A wireless device which makes your life easier after the implant, with different available colors which not only makes your life colorful by listening but also catering to your personal choices according to the color of your hair.

Here’s a little more about Kanso®:

It’s beautiful how with the coming generations we are getting stronger with creating solutions so that early intervention makes life easier, that reminds me of the fact that even a new born or a few months old baby can also be treated with the Cochlear Implants if they are diagnosed with hearing impairment and yes, it’s totally safe. The earlier you discover the problem, the more effectively it can be taken care of.

So if you have an infant in your family, I’d strongly recommend you to get him/her hearing screened. Hearing Aids are used for mild and moderate hearing loss whereas Cochlear Implants are used for Severe to Profound Levels of Hearing Loss. If you know of any hearing impaired child, I urge you to inform them about Cochlear Implants and have them visit any credible ENT surgeon in Mumbai.

It was an absolute honor to meet Dr. Milind Kirtane, a pioneer in Cochlear Implant surgeries in India and has done more than 2500 surgeries till date.

You can check out more information about the implants here.
